  KEY RESEARCH AREAS
·Planning, Operation and Control of Electric Power System
This topic focuses on power system generation/transmission planning, generation scheduling/unit commitment, economic dispatch/optimal power flow and reactive power optimization, especially under the environment of Smart Grids and deregulated markets. I have presented the cooperative co-evolutionary algorithm for power system unit commitment and Volt/Var control, the generation planning model and solution method based on Lagrangian relaxation and probabilistic production simulation and many other important models and algorithms in this area. More recent researches include robust scheduling of power system with significant wind power penetration and cooperative control of power system frequency and voltage based on differential game theory. I am also carrying out researches on applications of modern signal processing techniques to power system dynamic state estimation and overvoltage identification and location.

·Operation and Control of Smart Grids and Renewable Energy
I am leading an interdisciplinary research team which is devoting to exploration of key technologies of renewable energy (wind and solar power) generation control and grid integration. The high-precision wind power forecasting system is developed and applied to many wind farms in China. The world’s first multiple-time-frame robust scheduling platform (including function modules of unit commitment, economic dispatch, AGC and AVC) of power systems with large scale integration of intermittent renewable energy sources is under developing. All the technologies developed will be applied to the national Hainan Island Smart Grid demonstration base. More energy management and control technologies are researched and applied to different practical engineering projects.

·Modeling and Analysis of Electricity Market
This topic focuses on electricity market auction design, generation company’s optimal bidding strategies, and agent-based electricity market simulation. I lead a systematic research on electricity market simulation and analysis based on co-evolutionary computation; established the first web-based electricity market auction experiment platform and lead the systematic experimental research of electricity market auction mechanisms in China. I have also proposed the polynomial equation approach to compute Nash equilibria of multiplayer games and many other game-theoretic modeling, simulation and analysis approaches for electricity markets. Some research results have been used to design and analysis of real electricity markets in China.
