2002-2016年连续3次主持国家“科技重大专项”(包括新药创制专项),负责完成国家863、973课题、自然科学基金、国家科技攻关、上海市重点项目等20余项重大重点项目。发表SCI收录论文200余篇(包括Angewandte Chemie、Metabolic Engineering、Green Chemistry、Applied and Environmental Micorbiology、 Chemical Communications等国际顶级学术期刊),他引4500多次,发明专利60余项。获得国家新药临床证书3项,实现产业化项目20余项。已培养研究生300余人。
获2015年国家技术发明二等奖,2013年第十五届中国国际工业博览会铜奖,2013年上海市技术发明一等奖,2012年和2010年上海市科技进步一等奖。

1. 生物催化工程:新酶/生物催化剂的发现、改造及其功能的揭示,酶的结构计算及其重新设计,细胞生物催化剂的重构。
2. 生物制药工程:包括蛋白/多肽药物高效表达与规模化制备平台技术;生物催化技术在生物制药领域的应用。
